Thoughts while watching the active shooter livestream from Boulder, Colorado

• Citizens stopped in unsafe places (just outside the exits, messing with their phones — maybe trying to call 9-1-1? Hopefully?). It looks like a god damn fire drill. Maybe that’s where their minds went?

• Citizens don’t know what to do with other citizens down. They’re waiting for us. Do we need to train the able ones?

• The cops are fucking running. The first one on scene died protecting his citizens. Why the hell are there firefighters who think their lives are more important than those of our citizens?

• EMS needs to be ready to drag victims out of an exterior warm zone as soon as possible. They’re the immediately accessible ones — show up wearing your tactical gear and be ready to get to work.

• Ladder truck used as an access point for PD. Not an uncommon occurrence for us in our city, but for others it might be an unusual discussion on scene. Talk and train ahead of time.
