Preplan tip: Ponds in the winter

IMG_4297.jpg

Imagine if it were snowy, the pond was ice-covered, and you weren't aware of the ponds that dot this apartment complex -- that could create a horrible situation for an unsuspecting firefighter, or even civilians trying to get away from the building depending on the extent of the fire.

Make sure your preplans reflect this information, take a look at the satellite shot en route, or encourage the property owner to mark these areas — maybe with those long orange driveway markers? — in the winter to add a layer of safety.

As for the actual fire itself: Springfield Twp Fire Department along with Sylvania Township Fire Department and Monclova Township Fire ~ Rescue Department made quick work of a fire at the Quail Hollow Apartments late Friday night into early Saturday morning. Crews had the fire under control within a half-hour. The building’s sprinklers helped keep the fire in check before crews arrived.
